What are Pop-ups ads?
Pop-up ads are advertisements that “pop up” in new windows while you are browsing the Internet.

Why am I getting so many Pop-ups while I’m browsing the Internet?
There are several reasons for this; a few of them are listed below.

  • The website that you are visiting has set Pop-up ads to be launched periodically while you are on their site.
  • Another possibility is that you visited a site while surfing, and it launched pop-up windows in the background. These ads are known as "Pop-unders" since they pop up behind your regular browser window and aren’t immediately visible.
  • Other Web pages trigger pop-ups when you leave the site.
  • Some freeware software that you have installed (perhaps inadvertently) can also cause Pop-ups. These programs are called “adware” and are designed to display pop-ups at random intervals or triggered by anything you type on a Web page.

How can I prevent and stop Pop-up ads?
Several software companies do provide a solution for Pop-ups. Some of the more popular solutions are listed below. Please note that Cox High Speed Internet does not endorse or provide support for any of these products, and we are listing them only as a courtesy to our customers for their reference.

If you think you computer may be running “adware” programs that are causing Pop-ups, there are programs that can detect which program has “adware” embedded in it. A simple search at  http://download.com.com    for “adware” will list popular programs that provide this functionality.
